I need to rant more.

Over at Zathyus Support, a user requested some support to edit the colour of their portal sidebar links.
Being a nice guy, I linked them to two topics that would give them all the help they would ever need when styling the portal. This is where it became worse.
The user either hadn’t read the topics, or just skimmed over them and then stated that nothing worked. OK, that’s fine, so I post up the method they would need to use, again hoping they would read it. They never read it, stating that what I posted changed the backgrounds according to the image from one of the earlier linked topics. Hmm, so now they have read the topics, but it seems apparent they haven’t tried what I posted.
This is where a nice little rant comes in to play. I growled a bit, then moaned a bit, and guess what. The previous post I made suddenly works!
I implore everyone to rant nicely every once in a while. People may start to learn, and not just take take take.

There are indeed times when people have to be told. The key is to be polite about it – point out that their attitude isn’t helping them any but don’t resort to badmouthing them. It’s amazing how many people learn when someone finally tells them what they’re doing wrong rather than pandering to (and thereby furthering) their problematic behaviour.

I can certainly understand those seeking support are frustrated quite a bit, and when they don’t seem to read anything it frustrates us. I asked Jonathan if I could post that reply, and he looked at the topic and agreed.
I don’t like being harsh but I, as anyone else, would prefer people to help themselves once in a while.
/me strokes the Ocelot.

Precisely. One of the things that always annoyed me was how selfish people could be – it just baffles me that some people will make demands and get in to a fluster but they won’t help themselves.
But it helps that we have people like you around. I remember the days when support was a bitter battleground; things look a lot better now and it’s thank to people actually wanting to help and go that extra mile.

What I hate is the lack of rule reading. It’s oh-so-obvious when no-one reads them. Several times the answers they need are in them, or linked from them.
The once-in-a-while thank you makes up for it though. Those people make it all worth while.
/me fondles Jays ears. Yes, fondles.
/me needs to add a /me tag.

It’s unfortunate but incompetence, impatience and general rushing is something we have to put up with. Sucks, eh? If people read even the first page in the Support forums, they’d probably find a lot of answers to their burning questions (not least of all how to ask for support effectively). Still, if you can bear the burden you’ll go far. And I have to agree, the ones that appreciate your efforts more than make up for it.
*purrs loudly* ^________^
Yes, yes you do.

Young people need to learn how to act online, they seem to treat us the way they treat their friends; or try to act clever, and many times it’s like “I could just strangle you”.
I do know that once the post button is pressed, that the topic is most likely dealt with. I’m terrible for remembering who’s asked what, so after a few minuets it doesn’t bother me.
I wouldn’t be there if I never enjoyed it.
