Movie: Transformers 2

Date: Tuesday, June 23rd 2009. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

Mini review time.

The over-all storyline for this movie is, I feel, a little better explained. With you knowing what the characters are setting out to do, and not wandering aimlessly around for half an hour. There is more of a love angle being thrown at you, but then who wouldn’t want to galavant across the world with the love of their life to save said world?

For those of you who are a little bit older, prepare yourselves for innuendo after innuendo. The movie is full of them! And they’re mostly really funny. :D xD : /me sniggers at the childish humour.

The final battle scene is much like the first battle from the original movie; out in the dessert with explosions and flares and sand and stuff. The choreography in the second movie is really well done, and I don’t remember hat it was like in the first.

I can’t seem to remember any bad points, or rather; nothing springs to mind, so maybe that’s the sign of a good movie? I recommend going to watch this, even if your a bit sceptical. A movie is a movie after-all. :)

I still suck at reviews.

Movie: Mirrors

Date: Friday, October 24th 2008. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

I went earlier this week to watch this movie, and I have to say “go and watch it!”. :O

This is one of those movies that has a good storyline; decent acting; suspense; and barely ever lets up. The basic plot:

An ex detective takes a security job in a burned out department store, all the while struggling with inner demons of his past. Freaky things start to happen in the store, (well I say store, it’s more like a mansion). Our ex detective starts to investigate and concludes there are evil beings in the mirrors. People die. Towards the end he solves the “mystery” . . .

There are a few moments where the suspense is built up to nothing, like a lot of “horror” type movies. That for me was a slight let down for the following few moments.

The actress playing the ex detectives wife (ex wife?) is hot. Seriously hot. She spends the best part of the movie in a wet top! :O :D

There is a little bit of swearing as well, which annoyed me. I see no requirement to have f-this and f-that in an argument. It de-grades the scene.

All in all this is a great movie, to watch and to buy. Get the beers in; the crisps out; and relax!

Un-limited Pass.

Date: Sunday, August 03rd 2008. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

I have decided to splash out on an unlimited pass to the cinema. Yay! :D

This pass entitles me to watch as many movies as I wish for £12 per month, which, at four or more movies a month at student ticket prices of £5, will save me at least £8 a month.

Great.

I’ve already started my month with two movies today, Kung Fu Panda and X-Files: I Want To Believe.

I have to say I had high hopes for X-Files, but was disappointed with the story-line. Where where the aliens? The conspiracies? The truth being “out there”? The Mulder and Scully we know and love? Well ok, maybe Mulder and Scully where there, but the rest? Nope.

This movie is all about woman disappearing; a priest having visions; dogs barking; not giving up; some Russian dialect; and some questionable surgery. In short it’s an extended episode, that could have been a lot better if it wasn’t about .. well I won’t spoil it.

I’m not an “extreme” fan of the X-Files, but I went to watch this movie based off of what I had seen from the tv series. In my view it’s not drastic if you miss it, but for die-hard fans you may understand the story-line much more and enjoy it more. :)

Oh, we also received a free dvd that was swiftly hustled into a bag somewhere so I’m not actually sure which movie it is. This one or the first one.

Now, as for Kung Fu Hustle. This movie is great! With various funny moments throughout.

If you feel you have to borrow your niece or grandchild to go and see this don’t worry about it. The action/martial arts sequences are enough to keep you entertained; then you have comedy moments from Po the Panda, with the voice of Jack Black, who was the reason I went to see this movie in the first place. I’m glad I did.

If you get all mushy at animated death scenes, you know, with the conversation; the advice; the goodbye; the ‘what the f00k, your dying’ moment; then take a tissue and sniffle quietly. ;)

Watching the progression of Po go from slob to hero is something in itself. With food being both his problem for over-weight-ness and the solution to his training. The scene with the dumpling is one which a master of martial arts can be proud of. As well as a food guru, mmm dumplings.

*runs off to cook food*

There is a sense of predictability with the movie, with a non-hero type introduced; the hero types introduced; old and wise person has a vision; bad-guy lurks about a bit;1 non-hero type turns up randomly; hero-types rush off to save the day; hero-types loose; bad-guy returns; non-hero type kicks bad-guys behind, thus saving the day.

The story behind the animation is actually a good one. It sets thing up nicely. I recommend this movie to everyone. If not for the comedy then the martial arts. :ninja:

I wonder what movies next. You know, I haven’t managed to see The Dark Night yet. Hmm, I’ll drag someone next week.

1: There isn’t exactly any lurking, I just didn’t want to spoil the plot.

Movie: Hancock

Date: Friday, July 18th 2008. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

I went to watch this movie on Wednesday, which just happened to be Orange Wednesday so the que was out the door.

If you’ve seen the trailers for this and thought “hmm, that looks interesting!” then your thoughts would be right. Hancock is one of those films you buy on dvd after watching it at the cinema, it out does the trailer in every way.

Most movies put the best bits in trailers, but Hancock is different. It gets better in the movie.

General storyline: Hancock is a drunken bum that is hated by everyone; doesn’t care about it; fights crime in his own way, causing destruction to anything and everything possible, including the moon; sticks peoples heads up other peoples bums; shaves with his fingernails; and wears an outfit that’s a little tight.

Through most of the movie there is something funny taking place, then when there isn’t it becomes touching, which is awww.
At one point I think there’s a goof, when Mary (Charlize Theron) goes to get in a car to leave Hancock’s trailer home thing .. there was no car when she arrived. If anyone else noticed/notices this post a comment, that way I know I wasn’t seeing things.

The storyline isn’t much about being a hero saving the world, it’s more about a hero finding himself.

If you haven’t been to see it yet get going, you’re missing out. Just don’t go on a Wednesday, if you’re not on Orange.

Movie: Pathology.

Date: Monday, June 23rd 2008. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

The credits are still rolling as I write this, and I have to say it’s well worth the watch.

Basic story is a pathologist starts a new job where his colleagues play a game at night, your basic “guess the cause of death”. One member of the “team” kills a person, and the rest have to figure out how.

The story picks up towards the end, especially within the final scene, as it all becomes revenge against the two lead characters. That’s not to say it’s a slow start, in fact it’s quite enjoyable, especially the opening scene.

I recommend a night in with a rental if you haven’t already watched, if not for the cutting up of bodies; display of bodily innards; and sexual activity, then for a decent movie for a change. :P

Doctors, let’s have a look inside.

Movie: The Hulk.

Date: Friday, June 13th 2008. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

Went over the road to the cinema earlier tonight to watch this, and it’s a decent movie.

There was a bit of an issue with the real order though, the movie was used at a press release yesterday and had been re-packed in the wrong cases, meaning the ordering was off.

I noticed it straight away but it wasn’t all that bad, it’s pretty easy to keep track of the previous scene and to pick it up again when the ordering sorted out.

I never watched to other re-make I don’t think, or if I did I can’t remember it. There was possibly one iffy bit with the cgi of the attack helicopter at the university campus, it just looked out of place and really dodgy.

Robert Downey Jr appears at the end of the movie, stating something about creating a team, the avengers maybe?

All in all it was a decent, scratch that, great watch and I recommend seeing it.

Speaking of movies, I’ve just watched Road Kill on BBC three, and it was good. Paul Walker stars and plays a prank on a trucker by pretending to be a girl, but the trucker doesn’t find it funny and sets out to kill him and his brother. Something decent to have on in the background given what else was on.

Review: Atonement.

Date: Sunday, September 09th 2007. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

We had the Atonement Film Premier the other day, well the 5th. Went on from 11am until 3pm, didn’t really see much as I was at Pitman and my placement all day. :(

Keira Knightley never turned up .. nor any other big uber elite movie stars, the director was there though. Shame, I live right opposite the cinema too, could of invited everyone in for tea and an autograph session.

I’m off to see the film tonight, I’ll be looking out for my house on the big screen, and laughing at how terrible the area looks. Must say the council splashed out over the past two weeks to paint everything blue  .. The cinema, however, looks a lot better now having also had a lick of paint.

I shall update this entry with a small review of teh film, spoil the ending for everyone not having seen it yet. :P

Reviewness: (I don’t want to spoil this so I’ll just give an outline, contradicting what I stated above but so what).

OMG!! This is one hell of a great film! :O I don’t know where to start with this review thingy.

” Right, it starts off in the countryside in a posh house with Briony writing a play. As it gets into the film Celia (Keira Knightley) and Robbie (James McAvoy) are by the fountain where Briony witnesses Celia remove her top clothing and jump into the water. Little knowing why, but you find out later.

Further on Briony witnesses Robbie and Celia in the library “in the heat of the moment” :O She also witnesses an awful event later on and blames Robbie for it due to the library moment and the letter he accidentally sent to Celia.

This cumulates in Robbie ending up in prison with a choice, go to war or stay here. So off he goes, where you see a bit of France and what he’s doing. The movie goes back and forth a bit throughout, with 4yrs later; 3 months earlier etc etc.

The outlining plot is basically Briony changes hers; Celia’s; and Robbie’s lives with the mistake she made having Robbie arrested. At the end of the film it’s made clear that she wrote a biography and wrote the whole truth in it, because she never got chance to sort things out with Celia. Two points made are a little shocking but I don’t want to spoil anything. ;)

- Redcar didn’t look too bad actually, if you don’t know the area you wouldn’t recognise it .. which is probably a good thing. eee shushhh, love my swexie town me.

My house never made it on the film at all, already knew but still, would of been nice to see.

I think that’s it, or rather all I can squeeze out of my head at the moment. :P

Go see it; enjoy it; and let me know what you thought of it.

Movie: Hot Fuzz.

Date: Sunday, March 18th 2007. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

I went to see this the other day, and I must say it is a blooming brilliant movie :D

There is no shortage of brutal killings, non of those “we’ll move the camera while the killing is taking place” but full on gore .. in a comedic sense, maybe not one for the little ones to watch without a cushion.

Basic Plot: An exceptional police officer gets promoted to sergeant and transfered to a quite village so he doesn’t show the rest of the force up. The village has little to no crime, but there are soon murders happening with no witnesses or suspects. :O

Our sergeant starts to investigate and stumbles upon a cult, the villagers are killing off any trouble makers for the greater good of the community .. any-whoo, after a while a gun battle ensues which is well worth the watch. Oh, and a swan goes missing! :shifty:

If you haven’t seen it yet I suggest you do, a great way to start a night out with the lads. :P

Movie: Casino Royal.

Date: Sunday, November 26th 2006. Comments: 0 (View Entry)

Went to see this yesterday (Saturday 25th).

For a completely new take on Bond it isn’t half bad. There was a few shaky bits in it which could have been better, with certain scenes not at there bestable quality; a few scenes that maybe needed beefing up with a bit more content; and the “love” scenes, they where a bit too long.

The CGI stuff when they where jumping between the cranes at the building site was rubbish, it was obvious straight away that without computer trickery they would both be splats on someone’s new kitchen floor.

*Note: This blog does not, in anyway, acknowledge that the building site was primarily there to build houses with kitchens.
As if they destroyed the new DBS V12 Vanquish three times, :O the bastards! Simply for 3-6 seconds of car crashing action, I’d have run the bitch over.

*cough* spoiler *cough* *Apologies to anyone not having seen it yet.
Aston Martin apparently lost £500k when the cars where destroyed. :hmm:

The fight scenes are pretty damn good, Bond gets his behind kicked quite a few times but always wins in the end. The start of the film (the flashback to making his two kills for ‘00′ status) was good, I got a little confused and thought it was an advert though (they where on for that long I could of gone home for a cuppa. :tea:) but I soon realised it was meant to be that way.

Quote from flashback scene I thought was pretty funny:

Agent Guy: They say the second one’s
*shot from silenced weapon*
Bond: Yes, considerably.

Overall it was a great film. I liked it, which is incentive enough to see the next one.
